Jane Roberts is a marine biologist. She worked for two years in Antarctica at the Amundsen Scott South Pole Station. Hundreds of people work there now there’s even a canteen, post office, and movie theatre.
Antarctica doesn’t belong to any country. About 30 countries have research stations there, and around 4,000 people live there in summer.
Jane worked on marine life research. She collected ice samples and studied them in the lab. Her team even found dinosaur remains! Their research showed that Antarctica was much warmer millions of years ago.
It was extremely cold sometimes 80°C so she wore many layers of clothes. In her free time, she read books and played games with friends. She didn’t miss home much, but she missed colours because everything was white.
